Know how we're always saying that it's the inflated warranty prices that keep Best Buy and Circuit City afloat? Well, it looks like CompUSA didn't push them hard enough, so now they're going out of business. On the plus side: liquidation sale!
Sort of. Computers and notebooks are only 5% off, and you can probably do better elsewhere. Nearly everything else in the store is 10%, like video game consoles and games, monitors, flash drives, HDTV panels (Plasma and LCD), DVD players, with occasional 20% spikes around audio equipment.
Now, before you get all excited, keep in mind that CompUSA didn't have great prices to begin with, and we've heard the liquidation company handling the stores' final hurrah has been known to raise prices and call it a sale. Also, the official paperwork labels these discounts as "opening sales," so either they've adopted a clever euphemism for "fire sale," or these could be just the beginning of the price slashing. Due diligence, folks. Buyer Beware.
Also, keep in mind that because CompUSA will soon be a memory, you might want an alternative to a store-bought warranty. You can get a SquareTrade warranty on just about anything they sell (except video tapes, which are 10% off) that will make sure you won't be stuck with a bum gadget. It's not like you'll be able to return it to the store, now is it?
