The Wall Street Journal put up an interesting article yesterday about how much power your electronics draw and how much that ends up costing you. Right now, they put it at about 11-13% of the average household electricity bill goes to your electronics, but that's projected to go up to 18% by 2015.
No surprise, the big offenders are HDTVs. The WSJ estimates that your 60" Plasma HDTV could run you up to $200 a year, as opposed to the $30 that kept Cheers playing on your old cathode ray TV. LCDs are a little better than Plasma, and Projection HDTVs are better than LCDs, but don't expect to see any Energy Star tags on any of them until late next year, at best. The government just hasn't gotten around to testing them yet.
Oh, and those Energy Star tags? Not all that comprehensive, either, says the Journal.
