Have you met the newest kid on the game console block?
This week, Sony released the PSP Go, touting it as the "smallest and mightiest PSP system yet."
Haven't gotten our hands on one yet to confirm the latter, but it gets a thumbs up from us for being the most portable PSP to date.
So, what sets it apart from its rivals and other PSPs?
"It's all digital," explains Peter Dille, Sr. VP of marketing and PlayStation Network for Sony.
Yup, it's the first dedicated game device to leave physical game disks in the dust.
Some are saying it's a smart move on Sony's part as Apple has stepped into the world of gaming on the go - providing thousands of instantly downloadable games in its App Store for your iPhone or iTouch.
But will gamers go for the new PSP?
Winda Benedetti, Citizen Gamer over at msnbc.com got her hands on a PSPgo earlier this week and echoes mixed reviews. She describes the new gadget as "Sony's more portable portable gaming machine" but also makes mention of some angry Sony fanboys.
Included in initial complaints? Sony has already stated that it has no plans to provide backward compatability to PSP owners' current UMB-based games.
PSP Go vs. iPhone?
Not sure if it's fair to make a direct comparison here, but if you already own an iPhone or iPod Touch, check out Gizmodo's rant. They ran a price comparison and apparently the same game costs more on PSP Go than on iPhone.
We love the iPhone but agree that it's not designed as a dedicated game device being sans any control stick or pad.
One solution? If you're an iPhone user looking to enhance your gaming experience, you might get a kick out of this DIY iPhone game accessory.
