How Technology Can Improve Your Relationship

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Technology tends to get a bad rap when it comes to romance and human connection. This Valentine’s Day, though, we’re exploring some new tech that’s actually designed to enhance your relationship status, whatever that may be. So whether you’re single or spoken for, read on.

The Long-distance Relationship

Long-distance relationships are tough, but one company is hoping to ease the pain of physical distance with a new product called Pillow Talk.

How it works: you each wear sensors that wirelessly communicate with a soft panel inside the other’s pillow. When you place your head on your own pillow, you’ll hear the real-time heartbeat of your loved one (and vise versa). So even though you may be miles apart, you’re only a heartbeat away.

The Long-term Relationship

You’ve been together since the dawn of time, and you know everything there is to know about each other. But are you sure?

Prove it (or at least have fun trying) with the newly released Happy Couple, a fun relationship quiz app that prompts you to answer five new questions about your partner on your smartphone each day (and they answer five about you).

Developed in part by a couple’s therapist, this app sets out to prove that even when you think you know each other…there’s always more to learn.

Looking for a Relationship

Online dating is more popular than ever, but how can you be sure that your dinner date is really who they say they are?

Stud or Dud is a new service that lets singles perform a basic background check on their would-be dates. A simple search turns up marital status, criminal history, court records, home ownership, and more.

Okay, yes. It feels a little icky to be snooping around in someone’s business before you’ve even met them. But then again, the information is pulled from 100% public data, and if being informed before meeting in person makes you even a little safer, it could be worth the snoop.

Curious? Check out the app here.

(Hint: you can also opt out at any time to keep your own information from showing up in a search.)

Happily Relationship-free

Who says you need a valentine to buy you flowers? Bouquet subscription services like bouqs.com let you set up regular delivery of fresh, locally sourced flowers to your home or office. It’s a win-win: you get all the romance of roses without having to give up your Saturday nights.

Finally, remember that whatever your status, there’s always chocolate. Happy Valentine’s Day!
