SquareTrade Customers Reported 3.5 times more breakage on the iPad 2 than the iPad 1

Nearly 1 in 10 iPad 2 owners damaged their device in an accident within the first 12 months of ownership. Wowza!

The study also found the top 8 causes of reported accidents:

  1. Drops while handling
  2. Fell off the table
  3. Driveway/in car
  4. Child
  5. In bag
  6. Banged it against something
  7. Spill
  8. Pet

SquareTrade customers reported 9.8% of iPad 2s break in the first 12 months

The reported iPad 1 and iPad 2 malfunction types were

  • Power/Battery failure: 37%
  • Touchscreen: 22%
  • Software: 14%
  • Speakers: 9%
  • Button: 8%
  • Other: 10%

The total iPad 2 failure rate was 10.1% compared to the iPad 1 at 3.7%.
